Top 5 Insecticide Brands For Mosquitoes In The Dominican Republic And Punta Cana

Worrying about mosquitoes for a person vacationing in a hotel in the Dominican Republic may be of little relevance.

But a person like me, who has lived in different parts of the country, has experienced a battle against these annoying insects.

If you are going on a field trip or perhaps visiting communities or sectors of the country, I may be able to give you some advice on the most common commercial insecticides brands in the country.

In the Dominican Republic, there are several commercial brands of insecticides, in my eagerness to get rid of mosquitoes I have tried almost all of them.

Some brands are very good, others are useless, this is a small guide of which are the most effective insecticides in the Dominican Republic and Punta Cana.

I will organize the ranking in order of position, and give a score from 1 to 10 mosquitoes, with one being the meaning of “no good at all” and 10 being the most effective.

1- Baygon

In the first position is the old and reliable Baygon, this commercial brand belonging to the well-known Bayer company.

Well, the baygon insecticide for mosquitoes was really my favorite for many years, but beware, before you used to buy a green colored baygon for mosquitoes, this is the one I am referring to.

Then they came out with another orange-colored “water-based” baygon that is not half as effective as the original insecticide.

The green baygon is a powerful insecticide, they classify them depending on the insect, there is a specific one for cockroaches, another one for scorpions and other insects.

But there was a green baygon, specifically for mosquitoes, this insecticide is already very difficult to find in stores, although sometimes I have been able to find it.

The green baygon against mosquitoes, does not have a good smell, it is pure and simple an effective mosquito exterminator.

It may have been discontinued because it is too strong an insecticide.

The water-based baygon does nothing to mosquitoes, it’s like giving them a shower.

2- Orion

Orion is my favorite insecticide, second only to the extinct green baygon for mosquitoes.

What I like about Orion is that apart from being very effective, its performance is very good, the bottle is quite big, bigger than any other insecticide.

Apart from that, it is not very expensive, the quality/cost ratio is the best I have seen, its smell is exquisite, it smells so good that I could even use it as an air freshener.

So many compliments to this product and it seems as if they were paying me for promotion, but no, the product is really very good.

It works very well, it kills mosquitoes, it is very effective and it smells good.

This insecticide is so good, it is hard to find because it is always out of stock in the stores.

The lavender smell is the best.

Score: 10 mosquitoes.

3-Off

Off is a well-known brand of insecticide and of very good quality, the reason why I put it in third place is that it is the most expensive product on the list.

Personally, I have never bought it, so I won’t say much about it, what I have researched is that as its name indicates, Off is a product with the purpose of repelling mosquitoes, not killing them.

Off is a repellent, not an insecticide, but I had to add it to the list because I recommend it for foreigners visiting the country.

It comes in aerosol presentation and also to be applied directly to the body, it is the repellent that I recommend to foreign people, for its great effectiveness, if you are going to use it for a few days, the price does not matter.

Off can be easily found in any store or pharmacy in the country in its different versions.

Score: 8 mosquitoes.

4-Raid

Raid, I think this is the most popular insecticide, due to the aggressive advertising campaigns in the media.

But, popular does not mean effective, Raid comes in different colors, this insecticide is from the same company as baygon.

Honestly, I have bought them in their different versions and it is the same as the “water-based” baygon, it just doesn’t work for me as an insecticide.

The mosquitoes here are strong, this insecticide feels very mild, the times I have bought it I have immediately regretted it.

It may be useful to repel mosquitoes, but I don’t want to repel them, I want to eliminate them from the face of the earth.

Score: 6 mosquitoes

5- Oro

In a nutshell, I bought this product about twice, and it was because I mistook it for Orion insecticide, and I immediately regretted it.

Score: 5 mosquitoes

Other things don’t work

As I mentioned before, mosquitoes in the Dominican Republic are resistant, so forget about using repellent band-aids and other “soft” products.

Using “natural products” or citronella plants, none of that works, I once prepared a repellent lotion based on spices, it did not work.

You have to use the strongest products, as long as they are not harmful to your health, once in my ignorance I tried to repel mosquitoes with a mobile application that emitted a sound, that night mosquitoes killed me.

My favorite combination is to use an electric racket and Orion insecticide.
