Is The Dominican Republic Better Than Colombia?

|

I always try to look for objective information when dealing with sensitive issues like this, but honestly, the statistical comparisons I could find on the web about Colombia and the Dominican Republic are incredibly wrong.

I say this because I found a statistics page where they state that the Dominican Republic has more drug trafficking and using problems than Colombia, which is incredibly wrong.

And I am not going to “make firewood from the fallen tree” regarding Colombia, actually, I love that country and its people, for this topic I will have to make a subjective analysis based on my perception and experience.

You can trust my analysis, as I have lived in the Dominican Republic for more than 30 years, but I am quite critical about things in my country, and Colombia is my second home, I have visited that country many times for several years.

I have deep roots in that country and I know well the reality of both countries.

Although for this topic, I will not speak from the “native” point of view, I know that the intention of search in this topic are people from other countries who are trying to decide which of the two countries to visit, and based on that I will make the analysis.

In short, which is better to visit Colombia or the Dominican Republic?

That will depend on your tastes, if you want to live an island experience, visit spectacular beaches and have a Caribbean experience, the Dominican Republic is undoubtedly the best option.

But, if you are a “city” person who enjoys visiting big cities, getting to know different environments, the cultural diversity and different environments that Colombia offers surpass the Dominican Republic by far.

Colombia also has beaches and a Caribbean atmosphere in Cartagena, but that does not compare to the Dominican Republic, in fact, the Dominican Republic is a high-level tourist destination, only Mexico can compete in relation to the quality of beaches and hotels with the Dominican Republic.

Colombia is a much bigger country than the Dominican Republic, there is much more diversity in terms of cities, Medellin and Bogota are two spectacular cities.

Medellin and Bogota are the two largest cities in Colombia, in the Dominican Republic it is Santo Domingo, which is the capital of the country, Santo Domingo does not compare in terms of cultural diversity to these two large cities in Colombia.

Nor can cities be compared in terms of urban organization, Medellin and Bogota are exemplary cities in terms of urban planning, Santo Domingo not so much.

The climate of Medellin and Bogota is also much more pleasant, Santo Domingo has a predominantly humid and hot climate.

But, the great attraction of the Dominican Republic is not really the “big cities”, since, in reality, the Dominican Republic is literally an island, its great attraction is the beaches and natural environments.

And although Colombia is not lacking in any of these things, because they also have beaches and great landscapes, the Dominican Republic is really another level.

Nobody comes to the Dominican Republic just to be in Santo Domingo, even though the cultural heritage that exists in the city of Santo Domingo is unique in the world.

In Colombia in the city of Cartagena, there is a huge and impressive colonial area, much larger than the colonial area of Santo Domingo.

Although to be honest, the history behind the colonial zone of Santo Domingo is unique in the history of mankind.

Another advantage of being an island is that everything is close, in the Dominican Republic, you can get from one end to the other in just 4 hours by bus, however, in one of my visits to Colombia I had to spend 14 hours by bus from Bogota to Cucuta.

Colombia is the best destination for single tourists

I am referring to men, I am not going to try to cover the sun with a finger, everyone knows that sex tourism exists and is something that is exploited in many countries around the world.

In that sense, Colombia is definitely a great experience for single men, and the women of Colombia are world-famous for their beauty, plus, it is not expensive.

It is not that the Dominican Republic does not have sex tourism, the women are also very attractive, but, being as honest as possible, there is no comparison in relation to the variety and quality that appears in Colombia.

I mean, it’s not that I’m promoting that kind of tourism, these countries have many other things to see and enjoy, and I also mean meeting people to establish formal relationships.

The Dominican Republic is the best destination for families

In case you are past that bachelor phase and have a beautiful family with your lovely wife, I think the Dominican Republic offers a better experience.

Punta Cana and its hotels is a place practically designed to provide a family experience of another level, in Colombia, there is nothing like a place like Punta Cana.

Yes, in Cartagena there are hotels and so on, but nothing like the hotels in Punta Cana, besides, the difference in price is quite a lot, in Punta Cana, in spite of being high-level hotels, they are much more economical than in Cartagena.

This is possible because of the great competition of hotels in the area of Punta Cana, if you have children, there are hotels and activities designed specifically for children’s enjoyment.

Definitely, from my point of view, the Dominican Republic is a better destination for families.

In my opinion, better things in Colombia vs. Dominican Republic

Women (I’m a man, what do you expect?).

The climate, at least in the main cities of Medellin and Bogota, is temperate, with less heat, and the best thing is that there are no mosquitoes. (keep in mind that it rains almost every day in Bogotá, and this is a negative thing).

The people in general, yes well, in the DR people are also lovely, but in Colombia, they are a bit friendlier, less aggressive.

Infrastructure, improved infrastructure, and organization of the city.

In my opinion, better things in the Dominican Republic vs. Colombia

Women, What can I say?, maybe my eyes are used to women from the DR because I am local, but not to put down the women here, amazing natural bodies.

It is not that dangerous, i.e., many serious problems such as scopolamine and gang warfare do not exist in the DR.

The market facility and many of the things you can buy in the DR are difficult to get in Colombia. In this case, I am referring specifically to large cities in the DR.

Amazing beaches: I don’t think I would be exaggerating if I told you that some of the beaches in the DR are among the best in the world.

Which of the two countries is cheaper?

Both countries are very economical, the dollar goes a long way, if you are going to stay in an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic all your expenses will be reduced.

On the other hand, if you are going to do tourism on your own, it seems to me that the Dominican Republic could be a little more expensive destination than Colombia, and I say this because of the rent payment.

I was able to compare how much Airbnb costs in Medellin as well as in Santo Domingo and other cities, and the truth is that the rental costs in the Dominican Republic are very high compared to Colombia.

Other than that, food and other things are basically the same, both countries are inexpensive.

Which of the two countries is safer?

From my experience, the Dominican Republic is definitely safer than Colombia.

I think the ideal statement would be to say “less dangerous”, the Dominican Republic has its security problems, as do most Latin American countries, but in Colombia, there are simply too many other things going on to worry about.

Although Colombia has a reputation for being a violent country in the past, that is all behind us now, for example, Medellin is a very safe city, but you should still be VERY careful.

I mean, it is a city, and all Latin American cities are dangerous to some extent, Santo Domingo can also be a dangerous city, but Santo Domingo is not as touristy as Medellin.

Anyway, in Colombia, there are many security problems that do not exist in the Dominican Republic or that are not seen so often, but I do not want to go into so much detail, I think it is enough with the opinions I have given.

I love both countries, both offer different things worth experiencing, visit the Dominican Republic and then Colombia, or vice versa.

The positives outweigh the negatives in both countries.
