Food To Avoid at a Punta Cana Buffet And Additional Tips

|

One of the places where you can experience a wide variety of flavors, meats and foods are the buffets; but you must be careful with the places you attend, as it might have an influence on your health.

It is very important to mention that a free buffet should not be a danger for the consumer, but pay attention to some details before consuming any food, especially during the summer.

The main problem with a free buffet is that many people are manipulating food at the same time, and since there are no guarantees of the hygienic conditions of each consumer.

Extra precautions should be taken when handling it. Therefore, if you have doubts about the conditions of a buffet restaurant, it is important that you take care of your health and that of your family, choosing to avoid some foods and that I will mention them below with their respective reasons.

Contents

Eggs

The egg is a food with great benefits for the body, but if it is not adequately cooked or is not maintained at room temperature, it can have some negative effects on the digestive system.

For this reason, for your peace of mind, it is preferable to avoid it in the buffet. This measure should be applied to egg-based sauces in particular.

Chicken

Chicken is quite consumed, but you must be very careful since it is a food that can involve risks. Some of the bacteria associated with chicken meat are salmonella or staphylococcus, among others, which develop from about 37°.

A study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) found that over 99 percent of the chicken carcasses used for meat products sold in stores had traceable levels of E. Coli.

While this bacteria can be inhibited in the cooking of meat, if the temperatures at which the meat is consumed are not adequate, the bacteria may be present in the meat.

Fried food

Fried food is a very frequent dish in free buffets. However, such great availability should make you suspicious, since food prepared in a buffet must be profitable, and that is why on the vast majority of occasions they are usually fried with cheap and poor quality oils, being a very poorly healthy option.

In addition, it should be remembered that these foods will most likely have been fried in the same fryer as many others, most probably in a cheap, reused oil, It is best to opt for grilled or steamed.

Sushi

While consuming sushi in a specialized restaurant is a healthful and recommendable option, it is not the same as consuming a free buffet.

Sushi is a dish that needs the use of good quality fish, and it also requires a lot of experience for its proper preparation.

Likewise, it is also worth mentioning that it is a dish that requires an adequate temperature for its conservation, which again is a factor that can be compromised in a free buffet place.

Tuna

As with sushi, the conservation temperature of the tuna can also be a risk in a free buffet: it should be maintained at a colder temperature than many of the fish served in these establishments, as it is particularly susceptible to infection by microorganisms.

Therefore, it is not one of the most recommended foods to consume in a free buffet.

Salads with mayonnaise

Potato salads or pasta salads associating with mayonnaise can not only have a very high caloric density, in many cases underestimated because they are salads, but they are also a breeding ground for food poisoning.

In this case, it would be best to take salads based on whole grains, or based on roasted vegetables, and avoid prefabricated or mayonnaise-based sauces or similar. For both safety and caloric density.

Dressings

In the case of dressings, both creams and sauces, the problem is very similar to the use of mayonnaise in the dishes of a free buffet: they are highly processed substances, with an excessive amount of sodium, sugar, additives, and also calories.

In this case, it would be more appropriate to use olive oil and vinegar, both of which are healthier than any pre-made dressing.

Some tips for eating better at a free buffet in Punta Cana

The problems associated with eating “until you burst” and not considering what you are eating make up a long list.

Many people see so much food that they go crazy and want to eat everything. This causes them to get diarrhea and suffer several stomach problems due to the excessive intake that is wanted to be done in a few days.

It is hard not to fall into the temptation of wanting to try out everything in such establishments, and even the psychological attraction of maximizing the amount of money invested by eating as much as possible.

One helpful idea when eating at a buffet in moderation is to select the right amount of food when serving yourself, and when you finish what you have on your plate, don’t look back and leave.

Check the temperature of the food at the time of service in the buffets

It has been my job as an architect to be directly or indirectly involved in the design of restaurant or buffet kitchens in Punta Cana, cooking and handling food is essential all the time dealing with the right temperatures, both hot and cold.

Remember that the breakfast buffet is the “heaviest” meal for a resort kitchen, this meal begins to be prepared at approximately 4:00 a.m. and is displayed for service from approximately 8 a.m. onwards.

A plate of food loses approximately 5 degrees of heat for every minute it is out and the more temperature a food loses the more susceptible it is to the development of bacteria, Hotel kitchens are equipped to maintain proper food temperatures.

With these comments I am not trying to give a bad general image of the resort buffets in Punta Cana, it would be unfair, given that the food safety in all the hotels in this area is of a high standard, as well as the equipment and staff in charge, but like everything in life, some are better than others.
